RCMP charges two people after vehicle strikes officer

Lunenburg District RCMP has charged two people after their vehicle struck an RCMP officer in Chester.

On July 7, at approximately 8:55 a.m., Lunenburg District RCMP responded to a report of a potential impaired driver in a parking lot on Hwy. 3.

 Upon arrival, an RCMP officer approached the suspect vehicle, a Ford Flex, and spoke with the driver, who was displaying signs of impairment.

The driver then started the vehicle and sped off at a high rate of speed, dragging the officer into a police vehicle.

 The officer, who sustained minor injuries, was examined by EHS at the scene.

 While fleeing the area, the Flex sideswiped a vehicle, failed to negotiate a turn from Hwy. 14 onto Hwy. 103, and crashed into a guardrail. The male driver and female passenger attempted to take off on foot before being arrested.

Ryan Jacob Wheeler, 37, of Stonehurst, has been charged with:

* Assault of a Peace Officer with a Weapon

* Flight from a Peace Officer

* Operating a Conveyance while Prohibited

* Operating a Conveyance in a Manner Dangerous to the Public

* Resist Arrest

Sahara Lee Dorey, 26, from Lunenburg, has been charged with Resist Arrest.

Both Wheeler and Dorey were remanded into custody. They’re due to appear in Bridgewater Provincial Court on July 8.

The investigation is ongoing, with assistance from the Nova Scotia RCMP Collision and Reconstruction Service.
