Annapolis County firefighter spots woods fire in the nick of time

Local News

Earlier this morning, a volunteer firefighter with the Port Lorne Fire Department, came across a fire along Nichols Mountain Road in Mount Rose.

With dense fog in the area, the member managed to smell the fire and locate it before it spread.

Firefighters know there’s a distinct smell between a regular campfire and a woods fire, your senses are heightened and in this case it payed off.

The fire was located well off the road and not noticeable from the roadway due to the fog.

With it only in a small area of the woods, the potential and risk with extremely dry conditions was concerning.

The fire burned approximately 2 feet under ground into numerous roots.

Port Lorne firefighters spent sometime working to ensure the fire was completely out before clearing the scene.

Department of Natural Resources and Renewables were also called. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

Kudos to the quick acting response, ensuring our communities are safe!
