Wildfire now 1977 hectares and growing in West Dalhousie

Local News

⚠️ The West Dalhousie / Long Lake Wildfire continues to burn out of control this evening.

⚠️ Now estimated at 1977 hectares ⚠️

The fire was estimated at 1,100 hectares per the last update from DNR which is continuously growing and anticipated to be much larger.

107 homes evacuated and the County of Annapolis remains in a state of local emergency.

There are a number of fire departments on site for structural protection alongside numerous aircraft including 4 North West Territories 802 skimmers, contracted helicopters and agencies.

Numerous communities are experiencing heavy smoke from the fires and dried ashes falling from the skies in the Annapolis Valley.

⚠️ From Nova Scotia Power:

“We’ve been working closely with emergency officials since the Long Lake wildfire began in West Dalhousie.

To support the firefighting efforts, there may be times when we need to temporarily turn off power in the area of Morse Road so that first responders can work safely around our equipment.

⚠️ A power outage does not mean your home is at risk or that evacuation is required.

Please continue to follow the guidance provided by Annapolis REMO -Regional Emergency Management Organization.

There will be an official update from Department of Natural Resources sometime this evening.
