West Dalhousie Wildfire evening update

Local News

⚠️ The West Dalhousie / Long Lake wildfire is still out of control and now estimated at 8026 hectares.

The estimated size of the fire is the equivalent of 80 square kilometres.

Department of Natural Resources reporting that the fire has advanced along both sides of Paradise Lake after jumping dozer gaurds yesterday during extreme fire conditions.

Assessment of yesterday’s damage is ongoing. Beyond that, no new reports of damage to homes.

Rain this afternoon gave some time for crews to make progress, but it will take days of steady rain to help get the wildfire under control. The rain today will not make an overall difference on the fire conditions.

Weather prevented planes from flying but 6 helicopters have been working on the fire.

Heavy equipment operators resumed building dozer guards and same ground crews working on site today which include multiple fire departments DNR and agencies.

Next update expected tomorrow morning.
