⚠️ West Dalhousie / Long Lake Wildfire now classified as “Being Held.”
It’s been twenty seven days since the wildfire in West Dalhousie broke out and today marks the first day it’s officially being deemed as “Being held.” Per DNR.
The fire remains estimated at 8,468 hectares in size.
Twenty homes and 11 outbuildings were lost as a result of the fires explosive actively on Sunday, August 24th, which resulted in further evacuations.
There were no reported injuries to date by any officials.
Over 1,000 residents were evacuated as a result of the fires, many have been able to return and more are expected to return tomorrow, while many others are still anxiously waiting.
The fire is not being considered as out of control but conditions can change. The fire is being treated as “being held” which means the fire is not likely to grow or move depending on weather conditions, it’s important to note the fire is not under control and could be reclassified depending on conditions.
Rain that fell yesterday certainly helped but didn’t not provide enough to put out the fire per the latest update by Department of Natural Resources.
Resources on hand today include 11 helicopters, 4 planes with bird dog, about 10 pieces of heavy equipment, 40 DNR, 18 Ontario and 60 Quebec firefighters, plus support staff.
