The West Dalhousie / Long Lake wildfire is still being classified as “Being held” and estimated at 8,468 hectares.
Today marks 31 days since the wildfire was reported on the evening of August 13th.
There have been no new reports of damage despite the twenty homes and 11 outbuildings that were lost during fire activity on Sunday, August 24th.
Department of Natural Resources is reporting that crews had another very successful day yesterday and made good progress. They have advanced 100-150 feet inward on the eastern side of the fire.
With dry weather, the fire continues to burn deep and hot in some areas of the interior.
Infrared scanners are being used to detect heat and to identify areas to focus on.
The removal of hazards like hot spots, ash pits, and trees with weakened roots continues.
Many residents remain evacuated and have not yet returned home.
Resources available today include 8 helicopters, 4 planes and a bird dog, 7 pieces of heavy equipment and 7 water tankers.
Firefighters on site include 37 DNR, 59 Quebec, plus support staff.
The local state of emergency for Annapolis County was also extended today.
All volunteer fire department have been released from the scene.
