Volunteer Fire Department return to West Dalhousie Wildfire

Local News

The West Dalhousie / Long Lake wildfire remains as “Being Held.”

While the fire is still estimated at 8,468 hectares, crews continue to work on hotspots, removing of trees and action pits around properties while advancing inward on the fire.

Many residents remain evacuated and have been finding shelter in various locations while they wait for the next steps.

Multiple volunteer fire departments from Annapolis County have been called in to assist with the efforts today after being released in previous days.

Department of Natural Resources confirming dry conditions are making work harder for crews on the ground.

The southern half of the fire is still burning persistently and hot. Crews are working to suppress these areas with support from aircraft dropping water. The depth of burn makes this more difficult.

Resources available today include 8 helicopters, 4 planes and a bird dog, 7 pieces of heavy equipment and 7 water tankers. Firefighters on site include 47 DNR, 60 from Quebec, plus support staff.

The local state of emergency was reinstated yesterday by the County of Annapolis.
