Today marks 37 days since West Dalhousie Wildfire reported

Today marks 37 days since the wildfire broke out due to lightning in the area of West Dalhousie. 

The West Dalhousie / Long Lake wildfire remains as “Being held” at an estimated 8,468 hectares. 

Many residents remain evacuated from the West Dalhousie community as fire crews continue to put out hot spots within the active fire zone. 

There have been no new reports of damage despite twenty homes and 11 outbuildings that were lost during explosive fire behaviour on Sunday, August 24th.

Many residents were able to survey their properties and witness the damage first hand. 

Department of Natural Resources is reporting that road crews are repairing damaged roadways where they can inside the active wildfire zone. 

Nova Scotia Power continues to inspect and repair their infrastructure that was impacted. 

Continuous dry conditions mean more areas could burn within the active wildfire zone. 

Fire crews are working on hot spots near the perimeter to reinforce it while Infrared camera scans are showing good progress and will continue for the coming days help focus efforts.

Resources available today include 3 helicopters, 4 planes and a bird dog, 5 pieces of heavy equipment and 7 water tankers. Firefighters on site: 24 DNR, 17 Quebec, 20 Parks Canada, 5 PEI, plus support staff.
