Fire conditions in West Dalhousie are certainly taking a turn as we hit Day 11.
While getting credible information that is pertinent to the public has been difficult, there’s no doubt that there were heavy smoke plumes today.
This smoke has been noted in numerous communities by dozens of residents late this afternoon.
This is more activity than seen in previous days on the valley floor, even though firefighters have been battling areas in West Dalhousie that have been popping up all week.
Air quality statements have been issued for Kings County as heavy smoke blankets the sky.
Wind gusts, dry conditions, and the continued drought are fuelling this fire that is still burning out of control.
Department of Natural Resources is reporting the fire has spread to 3,255 hectares from its previous reports of 3,210 just a little while ago.
Additional fire departments were called to bring in apparatuses this afternoon as fire conditions were intensifying. Added structural fire protection measures were in place.
Aircraft, heavy machinery, and firefighters were working on site in challenging conditions again all day.
The fire is EXPECTED to maintain its intensity overnight and grow with the current wind and conditions.
Much needed rain forcasted for Monday, fingers crossed for successful suppression efforts until then.
