This is a friendly reminder to make sure you get your chimney cleaned!
With our days getting shorter and shorter and even colder, many homeowners are using their chimneys for the first time.
It’s always best practice to have chimneys cleaned and inspected by a certified professional, once a year before first use.
Especially at this time of year, birds and hornets take advantage of chimneys as a place to live. This can result in chimneys backing up with smoke in the home and potentially causing a chimney fire.

There is also the risk of having a structure fire as a result of a chimney fire. Having them cleaned and inspected annually reduces this risk and protects everyone in the home!
Over the course of several years doing coverage around the Annapolis Valley, there has been at least one home consumed by fire each year, with its presumed origin being from the chimney area.

If you suspect you may have a chimney fire, don’t wait, call 9-1-1.
Local fire departments have equipment to properly extinguish, ventilate smoke and gases, while also using thermal imaging cameras to check for extension outside the chimney.
Fires can burn and spread into nearby walls and attic spaces, resulting in further damage and risk.
