West Dalhousie Wildfire still out of control

Over 1,000 people have been forced from their homes as the West Dalhousie / Long Lake Wildfire is still estimated at 8,026 hectares this morning. 

The fire is the equivalent of 80 square kilometres  and remains very much out of control. 

Department of Natural Resources is still assessing the damage from Sunday’s explosive fire behaviour that doubled in size, which was previously reported at over 3,255 hectares.

“We will not share structure loss numbers until all affected residents have been informed. Beyond that, no new reports of damage to homes.” DNR stated in a statement via X. 

Crews are focusing on the east side of Paradise Lake, aiming to prevent spread to Trout Lake. 

Air resources include: 6 helicopters, 6 planes plus bird dogs. Ground resources: 56 DNR, 62 Ontario and 47 local firefighters, plus heavy equipment operators.
