The West Dalhousie / Long Lake Wildfire remains the same status as yesterday.
Covering an area of 3,210 hectares and still being classified as out of control, the fire hasn’t grown in almost 3 days.
Mandatory evacuations remain in place resulting in 107 homes being evacuated and affecting 215 people. Roads in West Dalhousie evacuation zone remain closed to the public.
DNR reporting this morning Work continues on the Long Lake wildfires complex to be as prepared as possible for the strong, shifting winds expected from hurricane Erin starting today and through the weekend.
Dozer guards are complete around the northern border, work continues on flanks where possible. Crews are also working on putting out hot spots and soaking with hose lines along borders. The aim is to limit spread and protect homes. No homes have been impacted.
Forestry & construction workers have been working around the clock creating dozer guards.
Ground crews and local firefighters from across Nova Scotia, Ontario and PEI all aiding in ongoing suppression efforts.
36 fire departments from 8 counties have been assisting per Dahl Dispatch.
On the scene today are 52 DNR, 42 Ontario, 5 PEI and 44 local firefighters, along with 6 contracted helicopters, 6 planes (4 802s from NWT and 2 CL415s from Manitoba) plus bird dogs.
