10th Anniversary of Burger Wars for Campaign for Kids

Community

🍔 With this year being the 10th Anniversary of Burger Wars for Campaign for Kids, this important initiative strictly raises money for kids in the County of Kings.

I managed to catch up with the volunteers on the planning team for kickoff day, learning about the campaign and the importance of this project!

“This year we are celebrating our 10th Anniversary of actually running Burger Wars. This idea started when we wanted to do something to help raise money for Campaign for Kids.” Stated Laura Duke, board member with Campaign for Kids.

Laura was able to touch on the nonprofit organization, which is dedicated to raising funds for children in financial need in Kings County.

Burger Wars take place during the full month of April with various businesses featuring their item. Whether that is a burger, salad, pizza or tacos, $1 from each item sold is then donated right back to campaign for kids!

With many things happening behind the scenes, the planning team spends a significant amount of time communicating with businesses, planning, recruiting and supplying prize packs.

Another part of the team goes around to all the different locations trying the item on Facebook live, while also promoting the item.

This year the planning team kicked off the first day of Burger Wars with Jeremy Novak with Where It’s At, Tour Nova Scotia. Novak offers Burger Wars tours, checking out different locations while also being part of the team.

Every time you eat a burger wars item, you can rate the item on their website. At the end of the month, stats are compiled and whoever gets the highest score wins the people’s choice award for the best burger wars item at the end of the campaign.

Every Friday draws take place for people who try burgers and leave ratings online. There is a chance you could win a prize by just trying a burger wars item and leaving a rating on their site.

Last year over 17,000 burgers were sold at various locations across the Annapolis Valley and beyond.

With establishments from Windsor to as far as Digby taking part this year and over 50-plus establishments helping with the campaign, some businesses feature their burger wars item, while other locations help sell socks and other apparel.

Over $20,000 was fundraised from donations and items sold last year.

All the money fundraised is put towards a variety of things, such as boots, snowsuits, program fees, eyeglasses or anything that can help children.

Last year Campaign for Kids purchased over 200 snowsuits for kids in elementary schools and various other locations.

This positive initiative not only helps kids and parents in our communities but also gives you the opportunity to check out businesses and support local.

“It’s such a fabulous event, it’s a great way to grab a friend or someone you haven’t seen in a while and go out for dinner. It’s not just the kids we are supporting, we’re also supporting local restaurants that are buying their meat from local butchers and produce toppings from farmers.” Duke stated.

Burger Wars is also working with Develop Nova Scotia with the Buy Local, to help promote the campaign!

Their website can be located below, with various locations taking part and photos of their burger featured. ⤵️

Take the opportunity during this slower month for our businesses and check out some restaurants. Make sure you leave a rating online!

Supporting local businesses and children in our community is so important and can make a difference.

You can check out live ratings of items and more on the Burger Wars Facebook page 😊
