Wildfires in Lake Paul remain out of control

Local News

⚠️ Lake Paul Wildfires Update:

Department of Natural Resources & Renewables along with Aylesford, Kingston & Berwick Fire Departments are back on the ground in Lake Paul bright and early this morning.

A helicopter is expected to return to the fires sometime today.

Firefighters are contending with some challenging conditions including how remote the fires are on the fire roads. The first fire is approximately 8 kilometres in and then requires a boat ride to the fire. Firefighters are using pumps from a nearby lake to attack the fire. Per Aylesford Fire, crews have this fire surrounded and anticipate to have the fire under control shortly, but conditions can change.

The second fire is approximately 3 more kilometres in after the first one off the fire roads. Crews are shuttling tankers to feed crews on the ground.

Since communications are very poor, Nova Scotia Public Safety & Field Communications is on site to boost this coverage.

⚠️ Additional mutual aid has since been requested from Waterville & Springfield fire departments to the scene.

Heavy smoke is lingering from the fires, being seen across the South Mountain and down onto the valley floor.

The fires are still being considered as “not in control.” Crews will be working the remainder of the day to get the fires under control.

There are no structures impacted or located near the fires.

Lightning strikes are presumed to be the cause of the fires that broke out yesterday.

Thank you to all those volunteers who took the day off work today to assist with these remote fires.

Temperatures are expected to reach over 30 degrees today feeling like 36.
