The West Dalhousie / Long Lake wildfire is still being held at 8,468 hectares.
There have been no new reports of damage to properties besides the twenty homes and 11 outbuildings reported from Sunday, August 24th, extreme fire activity.
Department of Natural Resources reporting that conditions are expected to be dry with minimal rain through the rest of the week, fog and heavy dew are helping with firefighting efforts.
Crews continue to work inward from the outer edges of the active wildfire zone. It’s a challenge on the western flank because of how deeply the fire is burning and at the SW corner where hot spots are persistent. On the eastern side, crews are in about 150 feet and advancing.
All volunteer fire department resources have been released from the scene and the effort is being speared by Department of Natural Resources.
Work continues to map and address hazards in a 300-foot radius of each property in the West Dalhousie area.
Crews are looking for and addressing hazards like hot spots, ash pits and trees with weakened roots due to fire burning underground.
DNR thanks the Ontario wildfire crews who are finishing up their deployment today and tomorrow.
Some residents have been able to return home while the area in West Dalhousie remains closed and residents are still anxiously waiting to return and view damage to their properties.
Resources on site today include 9 helicopters, 4 planes with bird dog, about 7 pieces of heavy equipment, 40 DNR, 4 Ontario, 60 Quebec firefighters, plus support staff.
