Crews continue to battle Lake George Wildfire

Local News

The Lake George Wildfire is now estimated at 285 hectares and still out of control.

Crews worked extremely hard yesterday to limit growth despite dry, windy conditions.

There have been no reports of damage to structures. Crews have added additional structural protection measures such as sprinklers and continue to do manual hydration (soaking down vegetation and structures to areas with out a water source such as Lake George)

Volunteer firefighters with tanker trucks were busy soaking down vegetation around the active fire perimeter.

Crews continue this hard work today with aim of limiting growth and protecting homes and structures. Progress continues on fire breaks around the perimeter of the active wildfire zone.

British Columbia Wildfire crews were introduced yesterday and will be back to assist today.

Resources today include 35 DNR, 39 BC and 31 local firefighters, 2 Newfoundland and 4 NWT planes, 1 DNR and 5 contracted helicopters, and 18 pieces of heavy equipment.

The next update by DNR is expected around midday tomorrow.
