Last year, I was dedicated to educating those within our communities on how vital having civic signs are.
Many got the message and worked to get signs displayed but it’s still a good time to put out another friendly reminder, as our days are getting shorter!
Members of our volunteer fire departments and local ground search have both expressed their concerns about the continued lack of or properly displayed civic signs.

With our significant wildfire season, especially for our Annapolis Valley emergency services, first responders experienced hurtles while being tasked in our communities.
During mandatory evacuations, search and rescue members relied on civic signs to ensure they were checking off homes that were safely evacuated. In some cases, this was tricky to do due to the lack of a civic sign.

While firefighters were in active wildfire zones in West Dalhousie and in Lake George, civic signs were used as safety references. They were also being used to help ensure firefighters knew where they were going while being tasked to help with protecting our communities.

The focus is not just on areas that were forced to evacuate, the concern continues across the province.
When minutes and even seconds matter our first responders should be able to locate us easily!
These are just more important reason’s why having your civic signs can be just as crucial for the safety of our residents when an emergency strikes, but for the safety of our first responders who work to protect us.
📍Where can you get a civic signs?
By visiting your local municipal website, they should have a list of civic sign suppliers within your county.
🪧 How should it be displayed?
• Your sign should be at the end of your driveway, facing both directions.
• Made of highly reflective material or illuminated, so it can be seen during the day and at night.
• It should also be in an elevated position so headlights can pick them up when approaching.
It’s highly recommended to get a blue and white reflective sign, these are the most beneficial for emergency services and don’t get missed!
