Fire Commission in Greenwich Dissolves

MEDIA RELEASE via Greenwich Fire:

The Greenwich Volunteer Fire Department was notified today that the Province of Nova Scotia has approved the dissolution of the Greenwich Fire Commission through an order in council in accordance with the provisions of the Rural Fire District Act. Back in May, the ratepayers of the fire commission voted in favour of a recommendation to dissolve the commission.

With the dissolution of the commission, the formal process of transferring its assets and liabilities to the fire department can now begin. This marks the final step in the process to satisfy the terms of an agreement reached earlier this year to wind up previous discussions regarding a merged fire service for Greenwich & Wolfville.

With the approval process now complete, a new modernized governance model will take effect in the Greenwich Fire District, with the Greenwich Volunteer Fire Department providing fire & emergency services to the Municipality of the County of Kings directly through an operating agreement which was reached earlier this year.

“With the dissolution now complete, we can finally put this difficult period behind us and focus fully on the future of the fire department as we look to continue to provide our community with top notch fire & emergency services” says Fire Chief Jason Ripley.
