Shortly after 6PM on Friday evening, Kentville Firefighters were dispatched to a house on fire in Centreville.

At the time of the call, a heavy column of black smoke could be seen from a distance, prior to the fire departments arrival.
Automatic mutual aid was also dispatched from New Minas, Waterville & Port Williams fire departments to assist on scene.

Deputy Chief, Ian Fairclough with the Kentville Fire Department arrived, to heavy fire involvement in the living area of the structure.
“Two occupants that were home at the time, were able to get out and call 911.” Stated Deputy Chief Fairclough.

Fire crews faced heavy fire that had already blown out the front window, they made quick work knocking down the flames while hitting hot spots inside the home for sometime after.
Thankfully there were no reported injuries as a result. Two cats that were inside at the time were also successfully rescued from the residence.
Kings District RCMP, EHS Paramedics and Nova Scotia Power also assisted on scene.
Greenwich Firefighters also provided standby coverage at the Kentville Fire Station during the incident.
Fairclough also confirmed the home had suffered extensive damage as a result of the fire. The cause is currently under investigation.
