Shortly after 3AM this morning, Kentville Firefighters were dispatched for a dumpster on fire near a commercial structure.
“We responded to the alarm and upon arrival, found that the fire had spread from a shed used to hold garbage and recyclables to the awning along an adjacent building, and then very quickly into a office occupancy in the building itself.” Stated Kentville Deputy Fire Chief, Ian Fairclough

This incident was upgraded to a structure fire following arrival, bringing in mutual aid from New Minas, Waterville & Port Williams Fire Departments directly to the scene.
Fire crews made quick work containing the fire to an area in a back corner of the building. Unfortunately there was extensive fire damage in that particular room as well as heat and smoke damage throughout the entire office unit.

The commercial building held several units for local businesses on the first and second floor.
One of the downstairs businesses sustained smoke damage, and smoke also spread throughout the upstairs, causing minor smoke damage to some units Deputy Chief Fairclough shared.
Kentville Police Service, Kings District RCMP & EHS Paramedics were also on scene.
There were no reported injuries as a result of the fire and the Greenwich Fire Department also provided standby coverage at the Kentville station during the incident.
Fairclough confirmed the cause of the fire remains under investigation. The fire is being investigated with assistance from the Kentville Police Service and the Office of the Fire Marshal.
