The wildfire that broke out on August 13th, 2025, in the community of West Dalhousie has officially been classified as extinguished by Department of Natural Resources.
Crews were alerted of two separate wildfires in West Dalhousie after lightning struck a remote area in late August last year.

Due to extreme wildfire conditions, the fire grew to a size of almost 8,500 hectares, destroying 20 homes and forcing hundreds of residents to evacuate.
For the first time in the provinces history, sprinkler protection equipment was used on structures, ultimately reverse engineering drought and saving dozens of homes.
Hundreds of volunteer firefighters, wildfire employees, heavy equipment, aircraft, forestry equipment and many additional provincial and out of province resources aided in the wildfire response.
This good news brings a sign of relief for those who live in the community and continue to see the charred area.

Our thoughts remain with all those who have lost homes and continue to navigate the challenges endured by this devastating fire.
These shots were taken this afternoon by West Dalhousie resident, Travis Baker, who was one of many who have to flee when evacuation orders were issued in August of 2025.
