The 2026 wildfire season has officially concluded as of October 15th!

It doesn’t mean you’re allowed to burn everywhere, some municipalities still have bylaws that restrict property owners from how they manage their backyard fires and some don’t allow you to burn at all.

You must also remember that fires can easily become out of control, especially if they aren’t supervised.

Those responsible should use good judgment no matter the time of year, it can only take one spark to catch a structure or other combustible materials on fire.

But what else does this mean? Well, you’re going to see alot more people conducting control burns.

Many burns that are done this time of year are burns that were put off during the summer and spring months, large industrial burns, like land clearing and agricultural related.

These burns put up a lot of smoke and typically more than one pile of brush is burning, making the fire appear more intense than it truly is.

These burns are supposed to be supervised and in a controlled setting, typically in a large field with someone on site and excavators working in the immediate area.

In most cases large burns are performed during the day time with the local fire department of jurisdiction being notified to reduce unnecessary calls for service.

Always think before you start a fire, no matter the size! Even a small fire can become a much bigger problem, even outside of the wildfire season.
