Home destroyed in overnight fire in North Kentville

Local News

Yesterday morning around 2AM, Kentville Firefighters were dispatched for a house on fire in North Kentville.

On arrival crews faced heavy fire conditions from a two and a half story home.

One of the occupants was a woken to the fire in the wee hours on Sunday. Thankfully, all four occupants inside of the residence managed to escape safety.

Automatic mutual aid was dispatched from New Minas, Port Williams and Waterville Fire Departments.

Due to the significant amount of involvement of the structure and the safety of firefighters on scene, crews were only able to perform an exterior fire attack.

Kings District RCMP, Nova Scotia Power, EHS Paramedics & the Kentville Water Commission also attended the scene.

Waterville Fire also provided coverage at the  Kentville Station during the fire.

Firefighters remained on site until roughly 8AM chasing hot spots.

One firefighter was assessed by paramedics but did not require transport.

Aldershot Road was shut down in the area for the operation, to safety supply water from a nearby hydrant.

Deputy Chief, Ian Fairclough with the Kentville Fire Volunteer Fire Department was able to confirm the fire had started on the outside. The cause is being investigated but not considered to be suspicious.

The more than 100 year home is considered to be a total loss.
