Home saved in smell of smoke investigation

Local News

Yesterday evening, Kentville Firefighters were dispatched to a smell of smoke in the area of North Kentville.

Kentville Police Service were in the area when they were flagged down by a nearby resident about the smell of smoke in the area.

Agencies searched the area for approximately an hour and a half until they eventually located the source.

The call was upgraded to a possible structure fire when smoke was noted from a residential home.

Thankfully, firefighters were able to notify residents that were home at the time and evacuate them safely.

Additional mutual aid departments were called, bringing in New Minas, Waterville & Port Williams.

Firefighters put out a fire that was burning in the attic space of an attached garage. There were no reported injuries as a result of the fire.

Kings District RCMP, EHS Paramedics and Nova Scotia Power also attended the scene.

Deputy Chief, Ian Fairclough with the Kentville Fire Department was able to confirm the fire is believed to be electrical in nature.

Greenwich Fire also provided stand by coverage at the Kentville Fire station.

The quick act of flagging down the police by the nearby resident and the investigation by agencies helped save the home and potentially the lives of this property.

The outcome may have been different had the fire burned throughout the night undetected.

Great work by all involved.
