Woods closures and fire bans were already in place in N.S. as neighbouring provinces were already experiencing large wildfires in their regions, including Paddy’s Pond in NFLD.
In Nova Scotia we were going weeks without rain, resulting in extreme drought conditions, it was only a matter of time that a fire would occur.
In the afternoon on the 12th, a large wildfire in Bayers Lake, Halifax County kicked off, the fire was moving rapidly, initiating a response by water bombers, also known as “super scoopers” from Quebec, to knock the flames.
In the afternoon hours thunderstorms popped up in our region, going through the rural areas of Lake Paul.
Just a short time later, two small wildfires in Lake Paul were reported, requiring multiple days by firefighters to get them under control.
This would only be the start of what was a long and intense wildfire season for Nova Scotia in 2025.
