It’s estimated that 20 million pounds of onions from this harvest season will eventually be sold all over the Maritimes.
For over 30 years, Dykeview Farms and Wilmar Acres have partnered together during the harvest season, growing and producing approximately 420 acres of onions across the Annapolis Valley.
With great weather this season for a variety of different crops, the fields are plentiful and producing a great yield.
The smooth operation between Dykeview and Wilmar, work together across hundreds of acres of onion fields to ensure onions are laid out in advance for harvesting.
This process allows onions to dry out before they are gathered off the fields and taken to be stored in cold storage.
Their fields are scattered all across the Valley floor between Nictaux and Canning.
These particular onions will be transported to different storage facilities in many of our communities to be stored until late spring to early summer until they’ll be ready for packaging for grocery stores across the Maritimes!
I managed to catch the crews operating along Highway 201 in South Farmington yesterday afternoon.
