Pothole Season Across The Valley

Community

Every year around spring, potholes are always a pressing issue, with our climate changing, increased traffic and temperatures constantly fluctuating.

Potholes seem to be getting worse each year across the valley and province.

I formed a very small and basic poll on Facebook the other day. Receiving feedback from those who have potentially suffered damaged tires or rims from potholes.

Potholes often worsen during the spring due to the freeze-thaw cycle. With water seeping into cracks, it expands when freezing, leading to pavement damage.

This year, with the combination of heavy winter precipitation and up and down temperatures, this can speed up the process.

Many folks have expressed concerns about the road conditions this spring, stating they’ve had to replace numerous tires and rims due to the increase in pavement damage.

From my poll the other day, 401 people weighed in on the topic.

78% of voters said they have fallen victim to potholes more than once so far.

There was 18% of voters said that they had not yet experienced the wrath of the potholes to date.

With the remaining 4% stating they’ve only fallen victim to a pothole once.

The province of Nova Scotia does have a form online to claim damage due to potholes.

This form has to be filled out within 30 days to claim damage. I would suspect this form would not be applicable in towns or municipalities that have specific public works departments.

I’m not sure if anyone has any luck with the process, but it is accessible on the province’s website and located below ⤵️
