On Tuesday evening, shortly before 7PM, Kingston firefighters were dispatched to a report of a house fire in the community of Meadowvale.

Initial reports indicated that there were flames and smoke coming from an upstairs bedroom of a residential home. Residents inside the structure gathered their pets and also shut off the power to the residence prior to safely evacuating.
Mutual aid protocols were activated, bringing in additional fire departments from Middleton, Nictaux and Aylesford.
“On my arrival, there was light smoke coming from the eaves, smoke was showing from the front peak and back of the home.” Shared the first arriving officer, Kingston Fire Chief Troy Bruce.

All occupants were able to safely evacuate outside the home.
Upon the arrival of the first-due apparatus, crews made a quick entry. Firefighters were able to locate the source, deploying a hose-line and water extinguisher. Using an estimated 63 gallons of water to extinguish the fire while pulling ceiling to ensure there was no further extension throughout the home.

Kingston Fire Chief Troy Bruce was able to confirm that the cause of the fire is being treated as accidental, a result of an electrical fire.

Bruce applauded the homeowners for their quick thinking by shutting the power off to the home, ultimately allowing firefighters enough time to get to the fire before it extended further into the structure.

The roadway along Highway 201 was closed off to traffic to allow firefighters to work safely in the area.
Nova Scotia Power along with Annapolis District RCMP also attended the scene.

Minor damage was reported to the home and no injuries as a result of the fire, Chief Bruce confirmed.
Great work by not only the firefighters but the quick-thinking property owners.
