RCMP & Halifax Regional Police conduct motorcycle training

Community

Over the past few weeks, officers with the Nova Scotia RCMP & Halifax Regional Police have been actively engaged in motorcycle training Cambridge.

Each year, an array of members take the opportunity to learn the techniques and many skills that are required to serve and protect while safely operating a motorcycle.

Officers, with the guidance of instructors, performed traffic stops while operating on their bikes this week.

With many years of service and countless traffic stops under their belts, performing such tasks on a motorcycle is a totally different experience.

Officers practiced different scenarios to safely operate their motorcycles and position their bikes in a manner that is safe for both the rider and the motorists that are pulled over.

Across Nova Scotia, the traffic services division, not only within the RCMP, but also in Halifax Regional Police, play a vital role in road safety.

Police bikes have the capabilities to patrol a variety of areas, including crowded city streets, highways, and even areas inaccessible to everyday patrol vehicles.

The operators who pass this course will provide an essential role in many communities across the province by providing additional traffic services capabilities while keeping our roadways safe.

This rigorous training teaches officers how to handle the unique challenges of riding a motorcycle in a law enforcement role.
