The West Dalhousie / Long Lake wildfire remains as “Being held”

Local News

The fire is still estimated at 8,468 hectares and there have been no new reports of damage to structures.

Twenty homes and 11 outbuildings lost due to fire activity on Sunday, August 24th.

Many residents remain evacuated from West Dalhousie as crews continue to battle hot spots in the perimeter.

Local state of emergency remains in effect for the County of Annapolis.

Department of Natural Resources is reporting that the fire size is an estimate of the fire perimeter, that is experiencing multiple fires inside the active wildfire zone.

The size of the fire is not expected to change unless it grows or a more precise measurement is made.

The fire is not currently spreading outwards but can still spread to spots inside the active wildfire zone that are not already burned.

Dry conditions are causing quiet areas to become active again. Crews continue advancing inward to fight the fire and addressing hazards around properties.

Resources available today include 5 helicopters, 4 planes and a bird dog, 2 pieces of heavy equipment and 7 water tankers.

Firefighters onsite include; 50 DNR, 20 Quebec, plus support staff. Many thanks to the Quebec crews who supported efforts.

Additional crews are expected to arrive this week.
