Town of Berwick announces decommission of Winter Works

Local News

From the Town of Berwick:

Town of Berwick Announces Transition to Contracted Winter Maintenance Services to Support Infrastructure Priorities

The Town of Berwick is moving to contracted winter road maintenance starting the 2025/26 winter season. Why the change?

Our aging snow-clearing equipment is becoming less reliable, increasing our maintenance costs, and will cost over $1.6 million in debt to replace. The Town has limited debt availability, and replacing this equipment would delay investing in critical infrastructure such as roads, sewers and stormwater systems by 5-10 years.

What does this mean for you?

Roads will still be cleared – with service standards in place for contractors

The Town will monitor performance throughout the winter

An online reporting tool will launch so you can share feedback or report issues

Town staff will remain on board, shifting their focus to parks, trails, and year-round maintenance

This change allows us to maintain road safety during winter while better investing in Berwick’s long-term needs.
