At 1137PM, just before midnight on Sunday, Wolfville Firefighters were dispatched to a report of a possible house on fire in the Town of Wolfville.

Nearby neighbours called 911 reporting a potential fire at a home. Upon arrival, it was determined that crews had a working fire on the rear exterior of a residential structure.
Like any routine call, firefighters wasted no time to snuff out the flames. During initial efforts, crews were working on suppression and primary searches. Just a short time later, firefighters were alerted to a mayday over the radio, indicating a firefighter had fallen through the floor.
“We did have a firefighter injury last night as a result of our efforts. Our firefighter did fall through the floor and a mayday was called.” Stated Wolfville Deputy Fire Chief, Chad Schrader.

Crews immediately redirected all their attention to rescuing the firefighter who needed to be extricated.
This also initiated mutual aid being dispatched to the scene from Greenwich & Port Williams Fire Departments.
Schrader confirmed his crews retrieved their downed member quickly. While always training for these what if scenarios, they acted on their skills, working swiftly to ensure their member was brought out safe, with no effort.
The firefighter was transferred into the care of EHS Paramedics where they were transported to the hospital.

“He is doing well, and we suspect he will make a full recovery.” Shared Chad.
Currently, there is no cause and it is under investigation by the Office of the Fire Marshal. Representatives were expected to come out to the scene today to further investigate.
The residence was not occupied at the time and was undergoing renovations.
Kings District RCMP, EHS Paramedics & Nova Scotia Power all assisted on scene.
Kudos to all firefighters involved in this incident. Maydays over the air are extremely time-sensitive. The fast acting efforts of the members on scene truly prove the hard work that takes place during training exercises.
