⚠️ West Dalhousie Wildfires Update:

Two wildfires burning in West Dalhousie have sparked a significant response to the community along with alert ready messages for mandatory evacuations.

DNRR Staff along with Bridgetown & Lawrencetown Fire in Annapolis County and Brooklyn Fire from West Hants, multiple helicopters, Public Safety Field Communications, Department of Public Works, Conservation, EHS Paramedics, Annapolis GSAR, DNRR helicopters, contracted helicopters, and many pieces of contracted heavy equipment were on scene.

Approximately 42 homes were evacuated with support of the Annapolis Ground Search & Rescue team earlier today along West Dalhousie Road.

Brooklyn Fire was requested to assist, as they are currently one of the only departments in this region who have sprinklers specifically for structural protection. They have been mobilized since early this morning. Brooklyn Fire has a good grasp on structural protection as they were deployed to assist Halifax Regional in the 2023 wildfires in Tantallon.

Lawrencetown Fire has also been requested to assist with their aerial device for structure protection.

Heavy equipment on site worked to create a dozer guard to protect the West Dalhousie Community Centre and two communications towers, with the heavy equipment creating fire barriers.

The Long Lake fire in West Dalhousie is now estimated at 406 hectares per the last update from DNR and is classified as out of control.
