CBC Highlight Civic Address Initiative

Community

Approximately two weeks ago I received a phone call from Meig from CBC.

When she called, she wanted to know what she could do to help get the word out about how important it is to have your civic sign displayed.

After chatting and explaining the lengths in which I’ve gone, from getting the word out there, to the research and time talking and visiting with residents, out of courtesy she decided to write on my initiative.

This project in which I’ve taken on has been way more then I have ever imagined.

From the conversations, back and forth information and just trying to get an understanding on the whole process, it has been a lot, consuming many hours and days.

Many don’t even think about having a sign displayed because they don’t think they’ll ever have an emergency or it’s just something brushed off for another time.

Not only do first responders rely on them for you, they rely on them for others when attending incidents in and around our communities.

Essential services also rely heavily on civic signs, being the guide to delivering your very important package, transporting our children and caring for our loved ones.

They are a vital tool in our communities and one in which could essentially mean the difference in someone’s life.

I’ve seen quite a few comments on posts as of late “Where do I get a civic sign?”

There are lists of suppliers with contact numbers on all municipal and town websites, while also outlining bylaws.

It is highly recommended by all first responders to get blue and white reflective sign, while not required under some bylaws, it’s recommended.

Signs should be displayed at the end of your driveway, on the same side of the road, elevated and visible from all directions of travel, also not specifically required under some bylaws but highly recommended by first responders.

I’m more than willing to answer questions and be engaged where and when I can!

There have been many faces behind this ongoing initiative, help from friends and fellow first responders, who know the importance of getting this message to the door steps of residents within our communities.
