The Lake George wildfire is now classified as under control ✅
That means the fire is responding well to suppression efforts and is not expected to grow beyond the current estimated 288 hectares.
DNR anticipates extinguishing the fire before winter conditions arrive. To date no structures were damaged and all evacuees have been able to return home.
Infrared scanning will be used to help detect hot spots. Crews are walking through the active fire zone, smelling for smoke and feeling the ground for heat with their hands. They dig and douse with water to put the hot spots out.
“We are extremely grateful to DNR firefighters, incident management team and other staff, local fire depts, crew from BC, the County of Kings and all the other agencies that are helping with this effort.” Nova Scotia DNR.
