Sharing on behalf of the CUPE Local 5183 long-term care workers at Grand View Manor

Local News

“I write regarding the upcoming strike/job action beginning Thursday, April 23rd at 7:00 AM.

Picketing will begin on Commercial Street in Berwick at 7:00 am with members gathering just prior to at the picket site along the sidewalk in front of GVM and it’s driveway and will proceed through the day until 7:00 pm. Picketing will take place at this location Monday – Friday weekly until a contact bargain has been reached.

This will be a moving picket line as to not hold up traffic coming and going from GVM and the new build site.

This is not a decision we’ve made lightly. We care deeply about our residents and the care we provide every single day, but we are being left behind.

Many of us are earning significantly less than other healthcare workers doing similar work, with wage gaps reaching up to $10 an hour next to LTC workers in the other Atlantic provinces.

We are working short-staffed, stretched thin, and doing everything we can to maintain dignity, safety, and quality of life for our residents, but it is becoming harder to sustain.

This strike is about fairness. It’s about respect. And it’s about making sure long-term care workers are valued so we can continue to provide the level of care our residents deserve.

We are standing together not only for ourselves, but for the future of long-term care in our community.

We would truly appreciate your support in helping share our story and raise awareness!

In solidarity we thank you,

CUPE Local 5183”
