From Canning Fire:
Yesterday, Sunday August 16, the Kings County Rope Rescue Team was deployed to rescue a dog that had gone over a cliff at Blomidon Provincial Park. Rope team members from Canning, Port Williams, Kentville and New Minas Fire Departments lowered 2 rescuers to secure the dog and then all were raised back up.

This incident occurred approximately 2.5km in the woods on the Look Out Loop off the Jodrey and Woodland trail system. From paging of the Rope team to all members out of the woods took approximately 5 hours. Canning Firefighters were able to locate the dog initially using their drone. The cliffs at this location are approximately 550′ (170m) from top to beach. The dog had fallen approximately 70′ vertically, landing in bushes at the top of a talus slope. A lowering to beach option was not viable due to the extremely unstable and overgrown condition of the talus slope.
Huge thank you to all members that participated in this rescue, and to Blomidon Park Staff who assisted as well. We are very happy Reese was reunited with his family. Good Job everyone.
