Fire Crews return to Lake George

Local News

Fire crews and agencies have returned back to the Lake George Wildfire this morning.

Department of Natural Resources, heavy equipment, volunteer firefighters and aircraft will continue to battle the 245 hectare wildfire that remains classified as out of control.

Most of the focus yesterday was fighting fire near fire breaks, while aircraft continued to work the fire from the air, fighting areas of interest. While continued work for structural protection continued.

Fire efforts were more favourable yesterday compared to previous days, but windy and dry conditions are still making fire efforts quite challenging even so late into the wildfire season.

Conditions today are expected to cause increased fire behaviour with an increase in winds expected and the shift in direction.

The Lake George Fire is burning in two concerning areas, after the fire jumped the Aylesford Road, it’s burning on both sides of the roadway.

Fire breaks have been made and additional breaks are expected.

Aylesford firefighters are continuing into their 6th day on the fire grounds, working to protect their district and soaking in hours of dedicated service.

Additional volunteer fire departments are on the grounds today, brush trucks from Kingston and Kentville Fire have been introduced. Waterville, Wolfville and Berwick are also assisting with apparatus and crew.

The Brooklyn Fire Department remains on site, with a plethora of sprinkler protection gear installed along Lake George with the direction from Department of Emergency Management.

Soaking of properties and vegetation will continue today, more sprinkler equipment was further installed yesterday on properties by firefighters.

All previous evacuation orders remain in effect and road closures also remain in place.

We are thinking of all those who are out battling this fire, wishing their safety and success as we approach one week since the fire broke out.
