Pheasants are birds that can be quite hard to capture.

Normally spotted on the ground and blending in with the landscape, they prefer to run when startled.

They can fly fast for short distances, with flight speeds of 38 to 48 mph and also reaching upwards of 60 mph when being chased.

Pheasants spend almost their entire life on the ground and are quite hard to spot. Eating a wide variety of foods including, insects, seeds, and leaves.

On average a pheasants life span is approximately 1 year, hardly do they die of old age.

The pheasant is a prey species facing major sources of mortality beginning the day it is laid in the nest as an egg.

Captured this morning while posted at a family fox den in Kings County.
