There is a 300+ hectare wildfire burning in Jacket Lake, Halifax County

This photo was taken by my sister who resides in Lochaber Mines where heavy plumes of smoke from the fire are very evident just before 6PM this evening. 

Two DNR helicopters, four fixed-wing water bombers and additional two water bombers from NFLD are engaged. 

From DNR: UPDATE (6 p.m.): DNR, Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency, and VFD are continuing to respond to the fire on Mooseland Rd, HRM. 

The fire has seen significant growth and is now estimated to be 300 ha and is out of control. 2 DNR helicopters and 4 fixed-wing water bombers are on site.

An additional two fixed-wing water bombers are on their way to assist from Newfoundland.   

Mooseland Rd. is currently closed near sixth lake. Please avoid the area.
