Valley Search & Rescue Open House

Community

The Valley Search and Rescue Team held an open house yesterday for the general public, giving many the opportunity to meet volunteers and check out equipment!

Many of us are not aware of the complex incidents that our search volunteers, across the province experience and the different tools that are used help with locating missing persons, providing closure and helping support our communities.

Search volunteers spend a significant amount of time training, similar to the fire service, to ensure they are skilled to provide assistance when called.

It was great to see such a strong turnout from the public, even councillors from the County of Kings and local representatives of government, who were all on site for the open house on Middle Dyke Road.

The Canning Fire Department along with Public Safety & Field Communications were also on site providing insight on their gear and operations!

Oops! Puppies were even there for children and adults to get some pet love!

This was my first time being at the Valley base, while I’ve had the opportunity to get out and learn a thing or two with different teams. I got a good understanding of how Project Lifesaver works and how this initiative can save lives.

It was also pretty neat to see two Waterville Founders on the walls inside the building!

If you are looking to support your local search team, you can do so by purchasing their monthly 50-50 tickets through raffle box below ⤵️
