Volunteer firefighters battle 6-acre wildfire in Morristown Good Friday.”

Local News

Yesterday afternoon, shortly before 2 PM, Aylesford Firefighters were dispatched to a smoke sighting in the community of Morristown.

On arrival, it was determined that an area near the woods was on fire. Upon further investigation, it was reported that multiple abandoned camper trailers and a fairly large wooded area were actively on fire.

The fire was located in a remote area and did not impact any immediate residential homes.

Department of Natural Resources and Renewables was then immediately notified.

Additional mutual aid assistance was called, and more tankers, manpower, and wildfire gear were brought to the scene.

The Department of Natural Resources and Renewables fire crew, Aylesford firefighters, including their substation in Lake Paul, Berwick, Kingston, and Waterville Fire Departments, all assisted on the scene.

The fire had jumped numerous ATV trails and covered an approximate 6-acre wooded area, making it challenging to get to some locations of the fire.

After firefighters managed to assist with containing the fire the scene was transferred to DNRR.

Aylesford Fire Chief, Shawn Carey confirmed that the fire was not believed to be a result of burning. The cause of the fire is being treated as undetermined and is in the hands of the Department of Natural Resources and Renewables.

Waterville & District provided coverage for Berwick Fire and Kentville Fire provided coverage for Waterville Fire.

There were no reported injuries as a result of the incident.

⚠️ Please Note:
