Waterville Big Flow pumping thousands of gallons of water in West Dalhousie

Community Local News

My fellow members from Waterville & District Volunteer Fire Department have put in their time assisting in West Dalhousie.

In total, volunteer members from Waterville have been down to provide their service four times, with Big flow #51 and Tanker #21.

Big flow is known for its ability to pump a high volume of water when required.

With the pump on board it can average 2,500 gallons in approximately a minute, providing quick turn around times for large and small tankers and saving an engine from being tied up on a fill site. Big Flow can also feed water to two tankers at once.

In the three times Big Flow has been requested it’s pumped water into 165 tankers with numerous different capacities.

The pump on wheels also filled 3 Department of Public Works sprayer trucks while drafting over its time in action.

In total they’ve pumped a staggering 417,900 gallons of water while providing assistance in their three days while on site.

This is just a sliver of the amount of water being pumped to help douse the ongoing wildfire.

Tanker #21 is expected to return tomorrow!

Thank you to all the volunteer members across Western Nova Scotia who have been taking their time to help our friends in Annapolis County.

Today marks 10 days since the fire broke out and it’s still classified as out of control estimated at 3,212 hectares in size.

Crews were contending with flare ups and hot spots throughout the day today. Fire crews, aircraft and resources will be back at it tomorrow for day 11.
