Yesterday afternoon Bear River Firefighters responded to a woods fire in the community of Morganville.
Annapolis Royal & Smiths Cove Firefighters along with DNRR also attended the scene.
I am happy to report that the fire has been extinguished per Bear River Fire Chief, McCormick.
Firefighters made quick work containing the fire and getting lines around an approximately 2 and half acre wildfire which was burning deep into the ground.
“If the wind would have been worse, it would have been a different story. Very dry and small brooks and streams are also dried up.” Stated Bear River Fire Chief, David McCormick.
I anticipate DNRR will be back today to monitor the location, which is routine during wildfire season.
Currently there is a province-wide burn ban on top of a restriction to activity in woods.
With tinder dry conditions across Nova Scotia, firefighters are urging residents to be extra cautious.
Many water sources are dried up or there is a lack of availability in the event of a fire, which could be catastrophic if such emergency arises.
