Arrests made following search warrants in Windermere & North Kentville

The Nova Scotia RCMP arrested several people, including a man wanted an on an outstanding warrant, and seized a replica firearm, ammunition, and drugs in Kings County.

On September 14, at approximately 11 a.m., Kings District RCMP learned that Joel Gibson, who was the subject of an active arrest warrant, was at a residence on Cleveland Rd. in Windermere. When officers attended, Gibson refused to exit the home.

Additional units, including the Nova Scotia RCMP Emergency Response Team, Police Dog Services, a remotely piloted aircraft system (drone) operator, and General Investigation Section were deployed to assist. 

At approximately 2:15 p.m., Gibson exited the home and refused to comply with directions from officers. In the interest of public and police safety, officers deployed an extended range impact weapon and he was taken into custody without further incident.

Two other people were arrested safely at this residence and later released pending scheduled court dates; they will face charges related to offences against the administration of law and justice.

While officers were on scene, they learned that weapons were stored at a residence in Kings County. As a result, the RCMP Southwest Nova Street Crime Enforcement Unit executed a search warrant at a home in North Kentville. Officers seized a replica firearm, a quantity of cocaine, ammunition, and other weapons. One person was safely arrested at this residence and later released by police pending a first court appearance. She will face weapon-related and drug-related charges.

Gibson appeared in Kentville[CM1.1] Provincial Court on September 15 to face charges associated to the warrant as well as several new charges for Obstruct Peace Officer (two counts), Failure to Comply with Release Order (two counts), and Failure to Comply with Probation Order. He remains in custody.

Officers appreciate the cooperation and understanding from the public as they carried out this operation.
