Residential Home suffers significant damage following an early morning fire

Local News

On Saturday morning, sometime around 4AM, Kingston Firefighters were alerted to a house on fire in the community of Meadowvale.

Kingston’s DC was the first on scene, noting that nothing was showing when he had arrived.

“My initial report was nothing showing. The fire was in the early stages and upon my 360 of the property I could smell smoke and see a light glow from the kitchen window.” Stated Kingston Deputy Chief, Bryan Tremblett.

The homeowner was able to escape from the structure prior to the fire department arriving.

Automatic mutual aid was already enroute, bringing in additional resources from Nictaux, Middleton & Aylesford Fire.

Kingston Fire Department’s first crews made a quick attack inside the home, sending firefighters to the source of the fire where they experienced heavy fire load and heat.

After knocking down the flames, firefighters located two pets inside the home.

“Despite our best efforts to try and revive them, they didn’t make it.” Shared Tremblett.

Crews continued to check for extension within the residence. Tremblett noted the structure experienced significant water and smoke damage.

The Canadian Red Cross was contacted as the property owner was displaced as a result.

EHS Paramedics were also on site and assessed the homeowner who was not transported. No further injuries were reported.

Nova Scotia Power along with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police also attended the scene.

The fire is currently under investigation and is believed to have started within the kitchen area of the residential home.
