Well It’s that time of year again, expecially on the weekends, that many residential yard sales are taking place across the Annapolis Valley.
Each year I do my due diligence in sharing a few key tips to help make our roads just a bit safer during the summer months.
While there have been no real reported accidents as a result of yard sales, there certainly have been many close encounters as a result.
Please use some judgement and caution if you are stopping at a yard sale.
Many outdoor sales take place on busy road ways, expecially our number one highways. Most of the points raised below happen weekly during yard sale season.
On many occasions motorists stop quickly, pulling over, causing vehicles in tow to stop aggressively.
• If you are stopping at a yard sale please try to always park off the road or as far off of the road as possible.
• Using proper turn signals or find a safe spot to turn around.
• Park on the same side of the road that everyone else is parking on. Parking on both sides of the road causes confusion and traffic congestion which can result in accidents.
• Don’t dart out infront of traffic, your life isn’t worth a yard sale.
• If you are hosting a yard sale consider doing it in an accessible location off the road or where parking is available.
The following information has been put together as an observation, and as always looking out for the safety of those within our community.
